Jan 6 Convict Attempted to Link up with Russian Army
Kevin Daniel Loftus, a Jan. 6th convict, tried to join up with Russian forces in the effort against Ukraine after attempting to board a flight to Turkey.
Jan. 6 protestor Kevin Daniel Loftus reportedly tried to join the Russian army in the fight against Ukraine after attempting to board a flight to Turkey, said prosecutors in a Wednesday report by The Wall Street Journal.
Loftus was not permitted to board the Oct. 28 flight due to his probation for a misdemeanor charge relating to the siege at the Capitol in 2021. Newsmax reported that the 56-year-old Texan needed "special permission" to leave the Dallas area.
Federal prosecutor Eli Ross, in the report, said Loftus told the FBI his plans to travel from Turkey to the Republic of Georgia in order to receive a 90-day visa to Russia. From there, he allegedly intended to connect with Russian forces.
Court records indicated that Loftus was ultimately arrested in Iowa for breaching his probation.
According to Ross, Loftus told FBI agents that he intended to leave for Wisconsin to drop off personal belongings to his son before he would return to Dallas for a drunk driving charge.
After his arrest in Iowa, Loftus was transferred to Washington, D.C. Newsmax reported that he will see a magistrate judge on Tuesday. Additionally, he will appear before Trump-appointed Judge Dabney Friedrich on Monday for another hearing. Friedrich sentenced Loftus in March 2022 to three years of probation after his guilty plea for the misdemeanor charge of entering the Capitol.
The Wall Street Journal indicated that prosecutors initially recommended a month in jail for Loftus based on his social media posts where he bragged about the protest at the Capitol and his involvement.
